Kamilion locomotive is introducing a line of locomotives from the 1940's and 1960's, in styles that are different from other manufacturers of 1 1/2" diesel locomotives.
Kamilion locomotive is introducing a different concept of locomotive to the 1 1/2" hobby. Most Gas/hydraulic locomotives on the market today are powered with a 14 to 18 H.P. V-twin gasoline motor, driving a simple pump and using a "log splitter" type of valve for control. This system works and is rugged; it is also quite difficult to operate smoothly. Attempting to use this type of locomotive while switching can be a frustrating expirence.
The hydraulic pump used in all Kamilion locomotives allows infinite control of speed and both forward and reverse from a single handle without having to change motor speed. Handle also includes horn, light and brake switches (is so equipped).
Electric locomotives use a 36 volt "golf cart" motor. Motor is "geared down" using a system of cog belts and right angle drives to achieve an unprecented hauling capacity. All locomotives advertised on this web side are capable of hauling a MINIMUM of 30 cars or equivalent cars/passengers, and most electric locomotives will handle considerably more. Electric locomotives will run approximately 9 hours (continuously) before recharging.
All locomotives are constructed using a 3/8" steel plate as the basis for the chassis. This makes for a stronger pilot and chassis than a built up frame. Locomotives can be ordered with working clasp brakes on hydraulic or electric or disc brakes on electric models only
Brake cylinders are made in-house and are prototype in appearance and function. Brake cylinders are fully field repairable should the need ever arise.
At the present time only COMPLETE TRUCKS or COMPLETE LOCOMOTIVES are offered. In the future a limited number of parts will be offered (brake cylinders, headlights, numberboards, etc).
Custom locomotive building is also avaliable.
